Make no mistake; CBD in its various forms is taking the world by storm, and the statistics certainly appear to back this up.
In fact, the global sales of Cannabidiol have increased incrementally since 2014, while they're projected to peak at a hefty $1.15 billion at the end of 2020.
CBD, which is a natural and non-psychoactive compound that is derived from hemp, has become particularly effective among fitness enthusiasts thanks to its capacity for regulating appetite and aiding recovery.
As a result, it's commonly consumed as a food supplement, either in the form of oil or water soluble isolates.
In this article, we're going to provide our favourite CBD recipes, each of which combine everyday ingredients and take minimal time to prepare.
This way, you can create delicious and simple recipes that improve both your physical and mental well-being.
Why Cook with CBD?
Before we break out a few of our favourite CBD recipes, it's important to understand the exact benefits of cooking with this compound.
In simple terms, CBD is rich in various nutrients, including the essential amino and fatty acids that perform such a pivotal role in the body.
It also includes key vitamins and minerals, while the consumption of Cannabidiol in small doses is also capable of enhancing the human body's insulin function.
As well as providing crucial vitamins and minerals, CBD may also help to keep you feeling fuller for longer after eating while helping to optimise your energy levels.
These benefits highlight the appeal of CBD as a food supplement, and one that can play a crucial role in your wellness routine.
The question that remains is how can you introduce CBD into your diet using simple and delicious recipes throughout the day? Let's take a look:
Overnight Oats with Blueberries
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, as this provides a boost to your metabolism and ensures that you start every day as you mean to go on.
One of our favourite foods to start the day off with are Oats, here’s why.
Our preferred recipe is best described as overnight oats, which is infused with CBD oil and blueberries (other berries and fruits are available, but the antioxidant qualities of blueberries are hard to ignore).
What you’ll need:
• 1/3 to 1/2 cup liquid such as dairy milk, almond, cashew or coconut milk.
• 150g old-fashioned rolled oats
• 35g Blueberries
This recipe is particularly easy to make, as you simply take a bowl and add a one-cup serving (150 grams) of traditional, rolled oats.
Then, cover your oats with your choice of milk, from skimmed products to soy, almond, coconut or oat alternatives.
Depending of the consistency you want to achieve depends on how much liquid you include. You can even use orange juice if you're so inclined, but this may be an acquired taste for most people.
Then add around 35 grams of blueberries to the mix, before stirring this to ensure that the oats begin to absorb your choice of liquid.
This is also the time at which you can add any further toppings or flavourings, while you should also take this opportunity to infuse the mixture with CBD oil.
Be sure to tailor the dosage to suit your needs, although if you're using this for the first time we'd recommend starting with a lower amount.
All that is left is for you to place a lid on the top and place your oats in the fridge overnight, ready to consume the very next day!
Chicken Salad with CBD Infused Lemon Dressing
Lunch is also an important meal, primarily to the fact that it raises your blood-sugar level in the middle of the day and enables you to focus for the remainder of the day.
One of our favourite lunch recipes is chicken salad with CBD infused lemon dressing, which is a light but filling meal that will help to maintain a high metabolism during the rigours of the day.
What you’ll need:
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 4 chicken thighs, skinless and boneless, sliced
For the salad and dressing:
• 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
• Zest and juice 1½ lemons
• 2 tsp clear honey
• 1 ripe avocado, finely sliced
• ½ cucumber, sliced
• Cherry Tomatoes sliced
• 100g radishes, finely sliced
Start by rubbing 2 tablespoons of olive oil over your chicken pieces, before seasoning this with salt and black pepper, which has some amazing benefits.
Then heat your chicken in a frying pan of a medium-high heat for around 10 minutes, turning regularly to ensure that each piece browns evenly.
Once your chicken is cooked, set this aside in a large salad bowl for cooling.
When it comes to making your CBD-infused lemon dressing, simply mix a tablespoon is Dijon mustard with lemon zest and around two tablespoons of lemon juice.
Then add one-quarter cup of mayonnaise and up to two cloves of garlic (depending on taste), before infusing the mix with a dose of CBD oil.
Stir your dressing until this is emulsified, seasoning with salt and pepper as you do so.
Then, simply add your choice of chopped vegetables to the mix, with cucumber, radishes and avocado adding taste and texture in equal measure.
At this stage, all that is left is to stir in your chicken pieces and serve!
On a final note, you can infuse the dish with extra CBD oil by using this as part of the rub for your chicken.
More specifically, you can infuse this with vegetable oil, salt and pepper to increase your dose, without compromising the integrity of the dish.
CBD-infused Garlic Butter Steak
If you've got a busy afternoon planned and are looking to prepare a slightly heavier and more satisfying meal, you can't beat a CBD-infused garlic butter steak.
The key here is ensure that you prepare and cook your steak to the optimal temperature, which remains something of an art form that can be genuinely difficult to master.
What you’ll need:
• Rump Steak 250g
• Pinch of sea salt and black pepper
• Garlic Clove
• Knob of butter or 55g butter
• 400g butter (salted or unsalted) or spreadable margarine
• 15 cloves garlic
• 7 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tsp parsley (optional)
Before you start the cooking process, you'll need to create a basic rub for your steak using olive or vegetable oil along with salt and pepper.
At the same time, you'll need to heat a pan using another two tablespoons of oil, before adding the prepared steak and commencing the cooking process.
The length of time required to cook the steak will depend on your desired temperature, from two minutes for a rare steak to six minutes for a medium-rare piece of meat (this is the most popular option).
Either way, be sure to turn this every minute, while taking these intervals as opportunities to further season the steak.
You can halve a garlic clove and rub this over the steak each time you turn it, for example, while butter can also provide a rich and flavourful rub.
In fact, this adds an additional layer of sweetness, but once again this depends on your own unique tastes and preferences.
If you own a herb brush, you may also use this to apply thyme or rosemary to the steak each time you turn it. This creates a further layer of flavour, which can make a big difference when attempting to create a unique and delicious recipe.
Now for the most important part; as it's imperative that you rest your steak for a period of two minutes once it has been removed from the heat.
This ensures that all of those carefully cultivated flavours are locked in, while it also prevents your meat from bleeding profusely over the plater (this is particularly important for rare or medium-rare temperatures).
When it comes to preparing your garlic butter, you should start by mixing softened butter with finely chopped garlic until completely smooth.
Then add one tablespoon of olive or vegetable oil to a smooth consistency, while taking this opportunity to infuse your CBD oil.
This works particularly well when being added to butter, and it's important that you allow time for the compound to infuse fully into the mix.
Then, mix in freshly chopped parsley, before transferring to a bowl to rest until serving. This can then be applied to your steak to create a truly delicious and ultimately satisfying meal.
If you're anything like us, all of these savoury recipes will have left you clamouring for a great dessert! This is where CBD edibles really come into their own, with our delicious brownie recipe offering a relevant case in point.
What you’ll need:
• ½ cup vegetable oil
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 large eggs
• ¼ teaspoon baking powder
• 1/3 cup cocoa powder
• ¼ teaspoon salt
• ½ cup flour
While our recipe is not to be confused with 'hash' brownies (sorry to disappoint some of you), they are genuinely tasty and offer the type of sweet treat that makes healthy eating manageable.
With this recipe, adding the CBD oil or isolate is one of the very first things that you'll do, by infusing up to 25 grams of isolate, or add a few drops of CBD oil into ½ a cup of vegetable oil.
Then, preheat your oven to 350°F, before mixing your oil with sugar until the liquid is well blended.
At this stage, you should add two large eggs and a single teaspoon of vanilla for flavour, continuing to stir to maintain a smooth consistency.
You'll then need to mix a series of dry ingredients in a separate bowl a quarter teaspoon of baking powder, half a cup of cocoa powder and a further half a cup of flour.
Now, stir this mixture into the the CBD and sugar-infused oil, stirring well to create an even and consistent blend. Then, pour this mixture into a greased, 9x9 square pan, before placing this in the oven to bake.
After around 20 minutes, remove the pan from the heat and place the brownies in the fridge to cool completely. You can then cut or separate the brownies from the pan and serve, or return to the refrigerator and save until later!
Make no mistake, these brownies are among the most popular CBD edibles, across both savoury and sweet dishes.
They're definitely to be recommended, while they represent the ideal treat for health conscious fitness enthusiasts.
The Last Word
These recipes highlight just how easy it is to introduce CBD oil and isolates into your diet, while creating simplistic and health-conscious dishes that are ideal for busy fitness enthusiasts.
They also underline the diversity and flexibility of CBD supplements, enabling even the most novice of chefs to optimise their diets and realise the full potential of Cannabidiol as a general well-being aid.
